A recent survey by Austin Knight, Inc. polled more than 200 companies recruiting online. According to the survey, 93 percent of those responding expect to use the Internet as a recruitment tool and to list job openings. Career Services would like to help you learn how to access the Internet to increase your hiring power.

One of the main locations on campus to tap into the Internet is the Henry Madden Library. The Library provides access to the Internet through the Web browser, Netscape. Many Netscape workstations are available in the Reference area of the Library. Most computer labs on campus provide access to the Internet. If you have an e-mail account, you can access the Internet through it. A variety of computer labs are available on campus:

This job-search method won't replace a trip to Career Services: It will enhance your visits there. Job hunting on the information highway is fun: It's a bit like going to the library and getting lost browsing among the stacks. You'll set out with a goal in mind and stumble across half a dozen other roads to explore which, in turn, offer better information and contacts than you expected. Once you're successful at surfing all the little nooks and crannies that contain good job-search information, you'll want to go back for more. Keep a record of the sites that you've explored since there are thousands of "home pages" on the WWW that offer job-search assistance.

Don't rely only on the following list. Conduct your own search for additional sites. Use any of the web browsers and search by using keywords, buzzwords or descriptors such as Employment Opportunities, Job Listings, Jobs Offered, Job Postings, Job Hunting, Career Development, Jobs, Job Search, etc. You might also want to add your discipline/major in the search process (e.g. Social Work Employment Opportunities, Agriculture Job Listings, etc.). Good Luck!!!
